Claiming

How to claim on the spot

Claiming happens at the front desk, before you leave.

  1. Bring your card

Bring your health fund card to your appointment.

  2. Get a free quote

Ask for a quote before treatment. We give you one on site, at no cost.

  3. Have your treatment

Your dentist explains each step and the cost before starting.

  4. Claim through HICAPS

We process your claim on our on-site HICAPS system. Your rebate comes off the bill straight away.

  5. Pay the gap

Pay the rest on the day, or spread it with Afterpay or Zip Pay.

Your rebate depends on your fund, your level of cover, and any limits or waiting periods.

Want to know the cost first?

Bring your health fund card. We quote the fee before any treatment starts.

Extras cover

What extras cover usually pays toward

Most funds group dental care into levels. Your policy decides which levels you have and how much you get back.

  • Preventive dental

Check-ups, scale and clean, X-rays and fissure sealants. Many extras policies include this level.

  • General dental

Fillings, simple extractions and some gum treatment. Often part of mid-level extras.

  • Major dental

Crowns, bridges, root canals, dentures and implants. Usually on higher extras, often with longer waiting periods.

  • Children: the CDBS

Eligible children may qualify for free dental care up to $1,095 every two years under the CDBS. This is a Medicare scheme, separate from your fund.

Gap payments

What is a gap payment?

The gap is the part of the fee your fund does not pay. You pay it at the clinic on the day.

Your gap depends mostly on your policy. These things change it:

  • Your level of extras cover.
  • Your annual dental limit, and how much of it you have used this year.
  • Waiting periods on a new or upgraded policy.
  • The item numbers for your treatment. Each fund pays its own set amount per item.

Ask us for the item numbers on your quote. Your fund can then tell you your rebate before treatment.

Ways to pay the gap

  • Pay on the day at the front desk
  • Afterpay: four equal payments, due every fortnight
  • Zip Pay: interest-free instalments for treatment over $1,000
  • Payment plans for families not covered by the CDBS
Check your cover

How to check your cover before you book

A short check with your fund avoids a surprise at the front desk.

Do this first

  • Log in to your fund app or website and open your extras cover.
  • Look up your dental annual limit and how much is left.
  • Check for any waiting periods that still apply.
  • Ask us for a quote with item numbers, then give them to your fund.

Things that can lower your rebate

  • You have used up your annual limit for the year.
  • The treatment falls inside a waiting period.
  • Your extras level does not include major dental.
  • You are not listed on the policy.

Still unsure? Ask your fund, or bring your card to your visit.
